The SG-Admin Popups module — modal popups with triggers, scoping, engagement measurement.

The Popups module in the admin is the per-site surface for managing modal and overlay popups — promotional offers, newsletter signups, attention-driving overlays. Each popup carries trigger rules (when to show), scoping (which pages), and engagement measurement (impressions / interactions / dismissals). This page is the Reference definition.

What is this for?

Read this page when you want the structural definition of popups — trigger model, scoping, and measurement.

Good use cases

  • You are scoping a promotional campaign that uses popups.
  • You are explaining to a stakeholder how SGEN handles overlay capture.
  • You hit a "how do popups know when to show?" question.

What NOT to use this for

  • Step-by-step procedures — open the relevant Guide.
  • Per-release shipped change — open What's New or Changelog.

How this connects to other features

Where to find it

Open SG-Admin for the active site. Popups is in the sidebar under the content or marketing group. Popup definitions, trigger settings, and per-popup engagement history are all reachable from this section. Editor and Admin access can manage popups.

Definition

A popup in the admin is a configured overlay that surfaces on the public site under defined trigger conditions. Each popup record carries identity, body content (composed with the same SG-Builder primitives), trigger rules (page-load delay, scroll depth, exit intent, click trigger), scoping (which pages or page categories show it), per-visitor frequency limits, and engagement counters.

Purpose

Define the Popups module as a Reference layer.

Scope

Covers popup record, triggers, scoping, measurement. Does not cover per-step procedures (Guides) or per-release shipped change.

Trigger rules

Page-load delay

Show after N seconds on the page.

Scroll depth

Show when the visitor has scrolled to N% of the page.

Exit intent

Show when mouse movement suggests visitor is about to leave.

Click trigger

Show when a specific element is clicked (used for click-to-open patterns).

Time-on-site

Show after N total seconds across the visitor's session.

Scoping and limits

Per-popup scoping limits which pages show the popup; per-visitor frequency limits prevent the same visitor from seeing the same popup repeatedly within a defined window.

Engagement measurement

Each popup carries impression / interaction / dismissal counters. Operators tune trigger and scope based on engagement rate signals.

Constraints and boundaries

Popups is a Reference area for the popup module.

Do not use for: per-step composition (use SG-Builder primitives inside the popup body), per-release shipped change.

Public boundary

This page is intentionally public-safe.

Examples

Example 1 — Operator launches a campaign popup

Operator creates the popup, configures page-load trigger at 5 seconds, scopes to homepage, sets per-visitor cap at one impression per 7 days. Engagement signals collect daily.

Example 2 — Operator tunes a low-engagement popup

Operator notices a popup with low interaction rate. Adjusts the trigger from page-load to scroll-depth; engagement rate climbs because the popup now fires after the visitor has invested time on the page.

Example 3 — Operator retires a popup post-campaign

Operator disables the popup after the campaign ends. The popup record stays for engagement-history reference but no longer surfaces.
